Nike defends USA home jersey against backlash of complaints

usa-womens-home-2015-group

In an interview with USA Today, Nike’s vice president of North America communications, defended the company’s design of the USA home jersey for 2015 that features a white shirt with black trim.

The biggest complaint among soccer fans in the United States this week is that the shirt has no red and blue in it. Black, white and yellow are not the colors of the USA.

“Not every team pays homage to the flag,” Charlie Brooks said on FTW. “Take Germany’s kit for example, world champions. The German flag is yellow, red and black. The kit is white with black trim on it. I understand people asking about the colors, but there’s also that level of not all national teams have to represent the flag.”

However, Brooks’ words don’t hold much weight. Germany’s home shirt for 2014/15 is white, black, gold and red.

But if he means Germany’s women’s home shirt for the 2015 Women’s World Cup, that one is white, black and red.

Neither shirt is yellow, red and black 2 out of the 3 colors represented on the national flag is better than Nike’s 1 out of 3 for the new USWNT shirt.

Brooks said that Nike wanted the jersey to “paint inspiration for the team itself, something crisp, stylish, sharp, strong and impactful, like the team itself.”

Brooks added that US Soccer is pleased with the design. But they would say that, wouldn’t they?

“They’re stoked,” Brooks said. “They love the uniforms.”

An important footnote to add is that Nike confirmed that the USA Men’s National Team will not be wearing this design as their home jersey during 2015, so there is a silver lining.

Regarding the design of the shirt, this may be another one where it looks better on television than it does close up. From a distance, the USA Women’s 2015 jersey is distinctive and the yellow-colored socks adds a unique perspective.

It’s only on close-up view (as below) that the shirt really does little to stoke interest. The shirt just looks like a white shirt with black trim. And the blue emblematic triangle is something that people won’t see when the jersey is worn.

The jury is out on this one. Let’s see how it looks on television during a match to see whether our opinions change at all.

US Soccer unveils USA home jersey for 2015 from Nike: Official [PHOTOS]

US Soccer has revealed the home jersey that the USA Women’s National Teams will be wearing during 2015 from Nike.

While the photos above and below feature the US Women’s National Team jersey, the men will likely be wearing the same design in 2015 given that the entire US squads are now wearing the same designs from youth to men’s and women’s levels.

The jersey from Nike is about as plain as you can make it — white with black trim. A black stripe runs down the side of the body, through the jersey and shorts. A white-to-volt-yellow gradient in the socks gives the kit at least some type of uniqueness.

The inside back of the neck features a blue triangular pennant design with 13 white stars, a numeric reference to the original U.S. colonies and a visual reference to the American flag.

The names and numbers on the back of the shirt feature an angular, modern typeface that is a modern twist on traditional American collegiate-style graphics and designed specifically for U.S. Soccer.

The USWNT will be wearing the jersey at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer in Canada.

USA home soccer jersey for 2015 from Nike is monochrome: Leaked [PHOTOS]

usa-home-shirt-2015-closeup

The United States home shirt for 2015 from Nike is a monochrome shirt, according to a leaked image that appears to be legitimate.

The leaked image from the reliable Todo Sobre Camisetas website, which has been reliable in the past, reveals the jersey that the US Women’s National Team will be wearing in 2015. Since the design for the US away shirt is the same for both the women’s and men’s national teams, that means the monochrome design will be worn by the USMNT too.

Nike, who have been the subject of a lot of love and hate from US soccer fans based on its experimental designs and lack of consistency for the US team from year to year, will feel the scorn from US fans again if the leaked image turns out to be real.

While we would like to think that this is a practical joke from Nike or some Photoshop artists, we’ll have to wait for the next several weeks to find out whether it’s real or not.

Why can’t Nike go back to the Centennial jersey design and create something as classic as that?

Leaked photos of Manchester City away shirt for 2015-16 season [PHOTOS]

manchester-city-away-shirt-closeup

Manchester City’s away shirt for the 2015-16 season will be a one-of-a-kind design that features a closeup of a Blue Moon.

The unique design features a dark blue shirt with the Blue Moon design splashed across the upper chest and around the v-neck collar of City’s away shirt for next season.

Whether you love it or hate it, there’s no denying that Nike’s design is quite remarkable. And it’s a whopping departure from the way that we think about soccer shirt designs.

One of the classiest (and very understated) aspects of the design is how the Manchester City crest stands out in white (or is it gray?) on the shirt.

Plus hats off to Manchester City and Nike for deciding to put the Etihad Airways shirt sponsor logo in the same blue/cyan color so it’s a seamless part of the design — instead of being featured in a distinct different color and ruining the look of the shirt.

For the first time since the 2008-09 season, the official ball that will be used in the Premier League during the 2015-16 season will be a red and white gradient.

The leaked photo of the ball (see above) shows a unique panel design from Nike that features a crimson and white gradient. The ball, named Nike Ordem, will officially be revealed in July, 2015.

The new Premier League 15-16 Soccer Ball has 12 panels in a three layer casing system, combined with black aerodynamic Nike Aerow Trac grooves for maximum visibility,” says FootyHeadlines, “Recent Nike Premier League balls were combined with different tones of blue.

“Technology wise, the new Nike Ordem 3 15-16 Official Premier League Football features the same characteristics as the Nike Ordem 14-15 Premier League Match Ball. The Nike Ordem Ball is Nike’s ‘most innovative, technologically advanced and aerodynamically tuned ball to date.’”
